Hello all,
I read the article Yolanda recommended and thought about Kahn Academy... I stumbled on it sometime ago, while trying to find a simpler way to explain some financial concepts to students in my financial literacy and financial capability workshops, just recently I again saw the Academy referenced on Sixty Minutes. It was founded by a gentleman
Sal Kahn, with 3 MIT degrees and a Harvard degree – who started using YOUTUBE to assist
his niece, who was in another location, I think it was his niece, in her studies – he has now created a non-profit organization backed by Bill Gates and Google – and he wants to provide a "world class
education for anyone, anywhere for free." Students can use it, teachers can, parents can study up and be able to help their kids... its truly an amazing program, and its free. Of course, for those who benefit, donations are accepted for operational costs, as we all know, tutors cost a lot, and effective tutors are worth even more. Please comment below and let me know what you think.

Article on Math Science Technology Education
Greetings Lunch Bunch Moms,
I trust your school year began with a strong and
enthusiastic start. I came across this article in the Wall Street Journal. Given
the emphasis on educating our kids in science, technology and math, this article
sheds light on a different perspective parental attitudes on math.

Hockaday Outreach
Hello Lunch Bunch Moms!!
I hope you all have had a great start to the new school year.
Attached is an outreach initiative from Hockaday to broaden its pool and search for diverse faculty and staff for the school. Please attend or pass to interested parties who would consider working for independent schools.

Hockaday will be hosting an Open House for potential faculty and staff members of area independent school. Our “Open House” will be truly that—not a recruitment fair with resumes exchanged and interviews scheduled, but rather an event that introduces our guests to independent schools through a presentation and panel discussion, followed by plenty of social time with more conversation opportunity.
Feel free to spread the word.
